Today, more than 174 years after Warren Akin I started practicing in Cartersville, Georgia, his descendents carry on the family's legal legacy. Akin & Tate's attorneys span the generations, providing both cutting-edge and historical perspectives to the firm's law practice. Wm. Morgan Akin and S. Lester Tate, III handle the bulk of the firm's legal practice. The firm recently welcomed to the practice Morgan's daughter, Peggy Akin St. Philip. And up until his passing in August 2009, Morgan's father Warren Akin had continued advising the firm on a daily basis and inspiring others with his professionalism and dedication. The 96-year-old, who was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1935, was especially proud to practice with his son and granddaughter. Tyler M. Love recently joined the firm after graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2009.
The firm has represented countless individuals in case ranging from wrongful death to workers' compensation to real estate disputes. The firm philosophy is to focus on quality not quantity. We do not take short cuts that might weaken a case; rather, we take the time to help each client achieve the best possible outcome. We will not "cut and run" by encouraging clients to settle too soon or for too little just to close the case. We work hard to ensure that all victims will be compensated for their costs and losses. Most importantly, we guard against premature settlement, before a client learns that he needs surgery, for example.
When clients have suffered personal injuries, we pursue compensation covering pain and suffering as well as reimbursement for medical bills. In cases involving eminent domain, condemnation, or real estate litigation, we strive to help people recover lost worth, salvage threatened property values, and protect ownership rights.
Akin & Tate has been protecting the citizens of Cartersville, and surrounding areas, for almost 200 years. Let our seasoned trial lawyers help you.

By 1900, Cartersville was a railroad junction town of over 3,000 residents. Some historians say the reason for the new courthouse was that the old one was too close to the railroad and that the noise of passing trains became so disruptive that trials were interrupted. The neoclassical styled Bartow County Courthouse was designed by James W. Golucke and built in 1903. Golucke favored a four-sided Greek cross floor plan with porticos and entrances and all four points of the compass. It has been called “truly a building for both the Old South and the New.”
